After a bit of a drought in the traditional monster movie department, The Wolfman brought back a classic monster. Set at the beginning of industrial times, it carries a subtle background plot that shows a clash between legendary beliefs and modern science. The R rating that it carries was well supported by the level of gore exhibited throughout the course of the film, but the plot was a bit simplistic. While it attempted for a deeper storyline, it failed at times (such as the strange curse that everyone seemed to know about, but the details of which would only really be known by the family members or love triangle of Lawrence, his dead brother, and his brother's fiancee). One aspect that was a bit annoying was the pseudo-love story that never fully panned out. |
